No Promise For This Hour
The dishes can wait. The moments can’t.

“Snatch the pleasures your children bring, let your children in turn find delight in you, and drain joy to the dregs without delay; no promise has been given for this night - nay, I have offered too long a respite! No promise has been given even for this hour.”
There are quotes that gently tap you on the shoulder.
And then there are quotes like this one — that hit like lightning.
It stopped me in my tracks.
Because how often do I say later?
“Not right now.”
“Let me finish this.”
“Maybe tomorrow.”
But what if there is no later?
No extra hour.
No guaranteed weekend.
No someday when things finally slow down.
When my kids ask me to play, I want to start saying yes more.
Not always. But more.
Yes to kicking the ball.
Yes to reading the book again.
Yes to practicing silly dances they saw online.
Yes to now.
The dishes can wait.
The phone can wait.
The world can wait.
This — right here — is the good stuff.
And I don’t want to miss it.
