The Long Game Wins
We tend to think big wins need big effort.
A major breakthrough.
A massive push.
Some kind of overnight miracle.
But that’s rarely how it works.
James Clear, author of Atomic Habits, once said:
“Sometimes all you need for exceptional results is average effort repeated for an above average amount of time.”
That one sticks with me. Because most of the time, we’re not failing from lack of talent or even lack of desire — we’re just trying to do too much, too soon.
We set goals so massive they paralyze us. Or dismiss the small steps because they don’t feel “important enough.”
But small steps compound.
Like investing in the S&P 500 — not flashy, but dependable.
Like walking 20 minutes a day — not intense, but transformative.
Before the half marathon, there’s a 5k.
Before reading 3 books a month, try 30 minutes a night.
Before going viral, there’s showing up online once a week.
The truth is: consistency beats intensity.
Average effort, long game.
One small choice at a time.
